Wow-

This is a GREAT thread, i just wanna put my 2 cents. Im NOT gonna go into WHO i thought was the best cuz thats kinda hard to define, BUT one thing about Jerry that i never experienced seeing any other group, is that when Jerry was on, and i mean really ON, he would elevate the rest of the band. Ive seen plenty of bands, RUSH, Deep Purple, etc., and all those guitarists ROCK, but ive never seen them elevate the rest of the band to a new level. I guess the word im looking for is inspirational. He was na inspirational player. I mean, Page is great, so is Alex Liefson, but i dont consider them inspirational. I used to LOVE it when Jerry would REALLY be hitting his stride (the Jam in Bertha, Jack Straw, etc.) and youd see Bobby, head down, with that SCHOOL BOY grin on face doin those "head juts" just priceless!

i cant really answer the question at hand, but I can say that as a guitarist, i may have learned the most about music and versatility from jerry. Learning from players like clapton and page offered a good starting point, and hendrix opened me up to just freaking out and making the vibrations right.. but jerry taught me so much more about music as a whole

so many unmentioned guitarists, nbut id like to add keith richards and trey anastasio to the list

For me, to me.... Jerry grabs what's important more than any. The ability to connect with a person or a collective consciousness... His ability of this is no less than incredibly amazing. The sound is just a bonus... As for who's fingers move better.... Go ask your high school band class teacher:)

But these other guitarists are incredible too, I am just thankful for all of them. Not to mention all of you! Peace!:)

Now this is an "oldie but a goodie" thread. Always enjoy it when a quality discussion comes up again.

But where did you find this one?

And as for Grendlel's Jerry/Elvis combo comment:

And lets not forget Jerry, Elvis and Sammy:

A match made...in...well, somewhere. Now Elvis does make a hasty exit about 45 seconds in.
